BE THE AUDIENCE THAT HELP DISTRIBUTE UNFREEDOM

Synopsis

UNFREEDOM is an urgent contemporary thriller about a society torn apart by political, religious, and sexual turmoil. Shifting between New York and New Delhi, the film juxtaposes two powerful and unflinching stories about religious fundamentalism and intolerance, one of which follows a Muslim terrorist attempting to silence a liberal Muslim scholar, while the other is about a young woman who defies her devout father and escapes an arranged marriage because she is secretly embroiled in a taboo lesbian romance. In this searing portrait of the polarized world we live in, all four characters go to their absolute limit—and beyond—in their struggle to defend their deeply-held and conflicting viewpoints on freedom, faith, family and love.

ABOUT Unfreedom

What is Unfreedom?

Director’s Note

The idea behind Unfreedom came from the desire to express the lack of freedom in the socio-economic structure of our contemporary times. A profound piece of poetry, Ye dagh dagh ujala, written by Faiz Ahmed Faiz inspired this expression.

The root of these lying in a society based on capitalism, patriarchy and its interrelationship with religion and violence, I chose the identities of Muslims and homosexuals in two distinct geographies.

In a world where mass extermination and discrimination happens in the name of ‘identity’, Unfreedom shows that people who are considered as belonging to a certain identity are all unique in their approaches towards the most pressing issues of their life.

The film examines the struggle of different individuals against violent prejudices – all seeking their own road to what they believe could set them free.

Frequently asked questions

Why sponsor a screening

As a sponsor, you help fund a screening event by covering costs like admin costs, licensing, venue, promotion, and event production. And you are helping a social impact film to reach a wider audience. In return, your brand/organisation/company gets visibility and alignment with our mission.

What types of sponsorship packages are available?

We offer different levels/packages (e.g., Title Sponsor, Screening Sponsor, Community Sponsor) depending on how many screenings you want to support, the scale of the event, and the visibility you desire. Please see here

What are the benefits of sponsoring?

Typical benefits include:

  • Logo placement on our website, promotional materials, and at the screening
  • On-screen acknowledgment before the film
  • Social media shout-outs
  • Complimentary passes or tickets (depending on the package)
  • Potential speaking opportunity or brand mention during the event
    Please see here
Can we sponsor a specific film or event?

Yes. You can choose to sponsor:

  • A particular Screening (if we have a screening schedule)
  • A screening in a specific city or region
  • A virtual screening aimed at a particular audience
How much does it cost to sponsor a screening?

Sponsorship cost varies based on the package level you choose. We will provide a detailed sponsor deck with rates and benefits once you reach out.
Please see here

How do we pay for the sponsorship?

We accept payments via bank transfer / digital payment (or whichever methods you support). Once you agree to a package, we’ll send an invoice and a payment link and/or bank details.

When do you need confirmation from us?

Ideally, we need confirmation at least 2 weeks before the screening date so that:

  • We can include your branding in promotional materials
  • We can create on-screen sponsor slides
  • We can promote the screening with sponsor mention in our promotion campaign
What happens if the screening is canceled or postponed?
  • If we cancel: We’ll issue a refund or credit for your sponsorship (depending on the reason and our policy), or you also will have the option to choose from many other screenings of your choice.
  • If the event is postponed: We’ll work with you to move your sponsorship to the new date.
Can we get a report on how many people attended or saw the screening?

Yes — after the event, we can provide a sponsorship impact report, which may include:

  • Number of attendees / viewers
  • Engagement metrics (e.g., social media reach)
  • Screenshots or photos (if in-person)
  • Any media or press coverage
Is there a guarantee that our logo / brand will be shown?

Yes, for the agreed-upon benefits in your package. We will include your logo in:

  • Pre-roll screens (for virtual screenings)
  • Slide decks or credits (for in-person)
  • Promotional materials
Can we co-sponsor with other companies / organizations?
Absolutely. We welcome co-sponsors. We’ll define how branding is shared (e.g., logo sizes, placement) based on the levels of co-sponsorship.
Can sponsors help with more than just money?

Yes. Sponsors can also contribute in non-monetary ways such as:

  • Help finding new venues for screening
  • Sharing marketing resources (email lists, social media)
  • Arranging for guest speakers or panelists
  • Offering in-kind services (e.g., catering)
How do we sign up to become a sponsor?
  • Fill out the sponsorship interest / inquiry form on the website (link to the form)
  • Or directly contact us at akr@playstudios.world
  • We’ll then send you a sponsorship deck and formal proposal
Are there any deadlines for sponsoring?
Deadlines depend on the event or screening. For maximum exposure, we recommend signing up 2 weeks in advance, but we can also accommodate late sponsorships in certain cases — do reach out.
Can we see past examples / case studies of sponsor-supported screenings?
Yes — we’d be happy to share past sponsor case studies, photos, and impact reports to help you decide which package fits your goals.
What happens after we sponsor?
  • We will onboard you as a sponsor and collect branding assets (logo, tagline)
  • We’ll define deliverables (which benefits you’ll receive)
  • We’ll design promotional material (with your branding)
  • Post-event, we’ll send you the impact report and thank-you collateral

Next Step

If your committee or organization is interested, we’ll be happy to arrange:

  1. An online viewing link for internal preview
